Calling all tree planting volunteers!
|
|
The wet winter has foiled our local Department of Forestry in Crimora and they are now in a crunch getting walnut seedlings planted
before the end of March. They are seeking 10-15 volunteers to
help plant trees as soon as the soils are dry enough for planting. It
is estimated that with 15 folks, the walnuts could be planted in
approximately 6 hours.(And there are other species
to plant as well if time allows and folks want to keep going...)

If you are available to volunteer (including Saturdays) and would be
interested in being on a list of potential volunteers to be contacted once a date is
finalized, please email directly to Phil Davis at philip.davis@va.usda.gov
and copy Josh McLaughlin, joshua.mclaughlin@dof.virginia.gov as soon as you can. Saturday, March 16 is a potential work day, depending on the weather that comes this Friday.
Your help will hopefully ensure that there will be walnuts available for
future riparian forest buffer projects, which is a huge part of DOF's conservation efforts in Virginia! Please help if you can!
