It's Paddle Season!
FOMR is finding its way with the new normal that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on all of us. Now-- a few months into this-- we are re-envisioning some form of float trip offerings. In late May we helped set up access permissions so River Access Program individuals and households could get out for a trip on the river. Do you recognize any of these "masked paddlers?
To sign up for the River Access Program, email your name, phone number and best times to call so Kate can call and chat with you briefly to discuss the program and get you signed up.

Fishing Licenses
Don’t forget, buying a fishing license not only keeps you
legal out there fishing, but it supports a great cause! The Virginia Department
of Game and Inland Fisheries gets most of their income from hunting and fishing
licenses, so buying a license directly funds the agency!

The Virginia Cooperative Extension offers a treasure trove of articles and videos related to aquatic habitat's flora and fauna...from info about zebra mussels to fish kills, from how to cook fish to how to choose water plants, and from wood ducks to salamanders. Critters Don't Need Litter
A handful of
FOMR members were filmed last fall for Critters Don’t Need
Litter, an episode in Untamed:
Life is Wild, a 13- episode
television series about the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Episodes run on
Thursdays at 8pm on Virginia Public Media public television stations in
Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, and Richmond. The new episodes will also be
streamed via Facebook Live on Wildlife Center of
Virginia,
VPM, and Science Matters Facebook
pages. “Our”
episode will air June 25th at 8pm. The synopsis is: Litter is one of the biggest impacts that humans have on
their environment. Litter isn’t just an aesthetic problem; it has serious
impacts on habitats, wildlife health, as well as human health and safety. The
consequences of even small acts of littering can be far-reaching and
long-lasting. Join the Wildlife Center staff and watershed conservation authorities
to learn more about the problems litter can pose, as well as a variety of ways that
you can help reduce litter. |
