Story Map Volunteers Needed

Friends, we need some help!!! We are creating two different Story Maps for our website. A story map is an online map that gives information that you would not typically find on a paper map alone. It often integrates legends, text, photos, videos as well as maps, and gives the viewer more ways to explore that information. One story map we will make will be about River Safety and the other about our River Access Program (RAP). If you have a good bit of knowledge of Middle River boating, safety, fishing and/or major hazards and you are willing to help, please email John Bauman jbbauman@gmail.com and in the subject line type "Middle River SM". This project should not take much of your time and we hope to be done with the planning by the end of April.

Our Aquifer’s Relationship to Middle River

March 7-13 was Groundwater Awareness Week! (Yes, there is a Groundwater Awareness Week.) To get into the spirit of things, I (Kate Guenther) decided to educate myself a bit about the relationship of Middle River to our groundwater aquifer system.

To start off, let’s review some basic earth science. An aquifer is an underground body of rocks with spaces between the rocks that fill with groundwater. Imagine an aquifer being like a rigid sponge. There are two terms that describe how an aquifer holds groundwater—porosity and permeability.

The rocks under our feet are full of cracks, fractures, and open spaces. For water to exist underground there must be empty spaces to hold it. The relative amount of space between rocks is called its porosity.

But the spaces between rocks can also be described... Read Full Blog

March's E. coli Report

The E. coli levels in Christians Creek were all amazingly low in March. The values are very similar to our cold weather low values at this exact time last year. And there is a new riparian buffer installation on Christians Creek, so that is exciting! Read the full report HERE!
