Friends of the Middle River News & Notes

(1)  We are now part of the Friends of the Shenandoah River (FOSR), a 501(c)(3) with which many of you are familiar.  FOSR's volunteer water monitors collect water samples from over 110 sites from Summerdean in Southern Augusta County all the way upstream to Harpers Ferry, WV, and take them to the FOSR Lab at Shenandoah University for chemical analysis.  Click here to see the FOSR Water Window showing where FOSR's collection sites are.

(2)  Now that we are a part of FOSR, you will be pleased to note that any donations you make to FOMR are tax-deductible (hint, hint!).

(3)  We have established committees for all our activities and functions.  We need your help by serving on one of our committees.  Each committee works only on a particular event - we're not trying to burn anyone out!  These are the committees:

Benthic Monitoring Committee - volunteer monitors collect & record river insects at various sites to determine the suitability of the water for aquatic life

Education Committee - Responsible for coordinating our presence at Earth Day, Kites & Critters, and other educational activities

Bird Walk/Float Committee - Responsible for coordinating our annual bird walk/float trip

Critter Catch Committee - Responsible for organizing this summer benthic event for families, especially kids.

Splash 'n Dash Committee - Responsible for coordinating our annual canoe/kayak race

Friends Fest Committee - Responsible for coordinating our annual barbecue picnic and kayak raffle

Middle River Clean-up Day Committee - Responsible for coordinating our annual clean-up of the River and some of its tributaries
