Retirement of Paul Bugas
DGIF Fisheries Biologist

Fish biologist, FOMR Board Member and one of the authors of the recently released Field Guide to Freshwater Fishes of Virginia, Paul has retired from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries after 44 years working with the agency. Underground Classroom

Headwaters Soil and Water Conservation District has launched their new Underground Classroom, a project that FOMR helped sponsor. The mobile unit will be used to teach about  important relationships between soil and water. Would you like to see it? The mobile classroom will be open for visiting at Farming in the Valley, Sunday, October 27, at Creative Works Farm, Creative Works Lane, Waynesboro, VA 22980 from 12-5pm.
Birdseed Order Deadline
Saturday, October 12

It's down to the wire to order birdseed this year from the Augusta Bird Club. The Augusta Bird Club's annual Seed Sale raises funds to support environmental education and conservation. The proceeds from your purchase will send young people to Nature Camp, support the Wildlife Center of Virginia, and benefit other important projects.
So, Who Won That Kayak?

For those of you unable to attend this year's recent Friends Fest picnic, we had a great, fun feast! And now we have yet another citizen outfitted with a new kayak! Maybe you'll see winner Jason Owens (pictured on right) out on the river fishing from his new turquoise river yacht!
E. Coli Monitoring Report

We've started monitoring some new sites this year on Christians Creek, and we continue collecting data for a few of the sites on Middle River that will hopefully continue to confirm the positive impact of good riparian buffers. Sampling data results of each site are HERE.
Can'd Aid and the Ball Corporation Cleanup

Late in September, nineteen volunteers (eleven from Ball Corporation, 1 from Can'd Aid, 2 students from Staunton High School, 3 volunteers from Waynesboro and 2 from FOMR) cleaned trash from the area between Mill Race Road and Middle River from Rt 11 downstream to the railroad underpass on Mill Race Rd. in Verona.

The team collected 14 tires and a lot of trash. Thanks, everyone, for the fine group effort! What an improvement!
