Hi Friend
You might have yet to be aware of a considerable war back in the 80’s and 90’s.
It snuck under the radar of many people, especially those older.
In this war, you had household names at the time...
Names like;
The Spice Girls.
Michael Jackson.
Madonna.
Cindy Crawford and even David Bowie.
The Cola wars.
Pepsi vs Coca-Cola.
You may have seen the videos of the Pepsi challenge.
Or you have seen some of the old TV adverts.
Or some of the madcap marketing campaigns used by Pepsi to promote itself.
You see, something Pepsi did won them the war…
They marketed to the audience they wanted to capture the attention.
While Coca-cola was using props like polar bears or the Christmas truck…
Pepsi launched campaigns where you could buy Pepsi merch...
Using tokens from the side of bottles and multi-packs.
Making yourself a vehicle for more of Pepsi’s marketing.
The way they won with this model is a masterclass in marketing yet the most simple concept...
Yet many PTs get it wrong.
Pepsi was cool and relatable to its target market.
Pepsi knew they couldn’t win over Coca-Cola's die-hard fans...
Because Coca-Cola was the first to the market.
Yet, they knew they could win over the next generation.
So that’s what they did, with the Pepsi points and using celebs to endorse their products.
Celebs, the younger generation of the time, found cool and exciting and wanted to be like them.
That’s what you need to focus on in your content and communication…
Whether it be on social media, your emails or how you interact with people on the gym floor.
Being relatable to the audience you want will have you winning in your business for many years to come.
Best wishes.
Naomi.
