Dear families,

We all experience hurts and disappointments in our lives. People fail us. Miscommunications happen. Feelings get hurt. Forgiveness is needed. As Jim Ryun says, “Forgiveness is a part of the race of life.”

As a young boy, Jim dreamed of doing something great. He wanted his life to amount to something, but as a young student, met with failure. Then he found his niche in running, and was the first high school boy to break the 4-minute barrier in the mile run in 1964. In the 1972 Olympics, Jim was favored to win the gold medal, but was tripped in the semi-finals, and eliminated. This was part of the process where Jim Ryun began to learn an important lesson about forgiveness. In this Message of the Month, he challenges listeners to practice this principle often, reminding them that it is a process.
Six days before giving this message, Jim received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, from President Trump. During the Medal of Freedom ceremony, President Trump gave an excellent introduction to this former Olympian, world record holder, and U. S. Congressman, and explained the achievements that led to this award. Click here to watch a memorable C-Span video of the Medal of Freedom ceremony.

In Christ,

The Family Conferences Team
