Dear Member,

It is with regret that the hosts of EUROPARC 2021 together with the EUROPARC Federation announce the decision to cancel the conference that was planned for October 2021 and to postpone it to 2-6 October, 2023. The theme 'Tribute to our landscape, where nature and people meet in harmony' will be the same as well as the programme.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there are currently too many insecurities to organise a successful event this year. We had been very much looking forward to welcoming colleagues from all over Europe in The Netherlands but since the conference is not cancelled, but postponed, we hope to see you all in good health in October 2023!

Additionally, I am writing to let you know of a few changes that have occurred to the regular EUROPARC programme as a result of the ongoing management issues of the Covid-19 pandemic.

CONFERENCE 2021 is NOW going to take place ONLINE

Sadly, as has just been announced, our face-to-face conference in the Netherlands has fallen victim to the stringent regulations required and we have had to postpone it. We look forward to reconvening in 2023.

BUT - building on the success of our first online conference last year, we are delighted to be able to announce a new EUROPARC Conference 2021: Parks in the Spotlight Powered by People; Inspired by Nature, will be on 6th and 7th October, in your very own living room, bedroom, dining room or office! Where ever you can access from your phone or computer, we will be there with you.

In many global and European policy frameworks Parks and Protected Areas have finally been identified as having a significant role. So, at this moment Parks are in the “Spotlight” across multiple agendas. This is our chance to “shine” and highlight how things are achieved “on the ground” and to indicate what more is needed to enable Parks and Protected Areas to fulfil their potential and meet the challenges being presented.

Our conference will look at the practical management that turns political and societal topics, such as climate change, biodiversity restoration, health, tourism and economy (especially post Covid-19), capacity building, technology, role of youth and agriculture, into reality.

Inspired by Nature, it is the People of Parks, the staff, their communities, partners and stakeholders that make the changes needed, happen.

We invite you to SAVE THE DATES and we will announce more programme details and be open for registration in the coming months.

We are putting together an exciting, participatory programme for you, with opportunities to share and learn together.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Of course, the postponement of the conference means that the General Assembly for 2021 will also be online. This will be on Tuesday 5th October starting at 09:00 am. With changes in the regulation that apply to our association, we are now permitted to have electronic voting for the Council and President election ONLINE. So we will still go ahead with the election of a new council and president on that same date.

Please note only members whose membership fee are paid will be able to vote in October so please ensure the invoices from us have been received and paid. If you have an issue or have questions regarding membership please contact us at members.europarc@europarc.org.

Nomination for the positions on the EUROPARC Council and President remain open but will close on 30th of July. Please consider being part of EUROPARC’s success by seeking a nomination. All the details and information you need is found here. Simply use the password as follows: memberseuroparc.

This is an important General assembly as not only will we have the election, but it will be the opportunity too to approve a new strategy for EUROPARC, the culmination of the extensive consultation process you have taken part in.

The final part of that will be the draft of the strategy which will be arriving to you soon. We very much welcome your feedback and comments. Watch your inboxes for that around the 10th June.

Meanwhile, we really look forward to meeting you at other events hosted by EUROPARC:
  • 4th of June: Webinar for the EU Green week on urban forestry as a Nature Based Solution to mitigate climate change and reduce pollution.
  • 10th of June: TransParcNet meeting (only for EUROPARC Transboundary Areas).
  • 17th of June: Policy event for the project “Sustainable Tourism Training for Tomorrow” (invitation and registration coming this week).
