I want to share with you some exciting news regarding our decades long battle to free prisoners from the grip of sexual sin. Over the years myself and other staff members have gone on numerous speaking tours throughout Brazil. God used all those visits to help individuals, but we have dreamed of the day that something lasting could be established in Brazil. That dream is finally becoming a reality!
One of the individuals who has done a great deal to facilitate our efforts has been Airton Williams, a Presbyterian pastor and president of a biblical counseling organization called SEBI (Society for Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies). Airton and his wife Jhosy have become close friends to Kathy and me.
Last month he and his team spent several days fasting and praying about God’s direction for this new work. Although there will be no official tie to Pure Life Ministries, they will be calling this organization Pure Life Ministries Brazil. Several of our books have been in circulation down there over the years, so our name has already been well established in the Christian community there.
They have rented a house for the residential program they are beginning and one of our former staff members, Fred Geermann, has joined their team as a counselor and assistant. I am in constant communication with Fred and Airton as they prepare to begin receiving students in their program.
They do have the spiritual backing of several Brazilian churches, but the financial support has been somewhat limited. Their primary needs right now are the typical startup costs involved with launching a new work like this: beds and other furniture, website construction, salaries for the administrator and counselor, etc.
Because it is a U.S. based nonprofit, PLM is restricted in our ability to help them out financially, so if you do decide to give to them you will need to utilize the Donate page of SEBI: https://sebi.com.br/curso/doacao/. Any money that comes in from the U.S. will go directly into the fund for Pure Life Ministries Brazil, although you should keep in mind that those donations would not be tax deductible.
