God’s holy prophets and apostles consistently warned that as we approach the second coming of Christ, evil will proliferate throughout the earth. Perhaps their predictions have never come to life as vividly as they have in the last few years in America.
And one would certainly grieve these tragic circumstances if this growing darkness were confined merely to the masses of unbelieving people in America. But for the last 40 years, I have been increasingly burdened as I have watched millions of Christians become entangled in the same evils that plague our society at large.
Most recently, the Barna Group released a study that cited one of the most alarming statistics I’ve ever encountered. It reported that 75% of Christian men and 40% of Christian women are involved in porn at some level. But here’s the statistic that shocked me: of those Christians who are viewing porn, 49% of them are comfortable with what they are doing! That shows a jadedness and hardness of heart that is shocking.
For decades, our constant prayer has been, “Lord, send us men who are desperate for freedom!” It is that kind of anguish of soul that infuses people with the needed determination to battle their way out of the bonds of sin. But this study suggests that as the years go on, fewer men and women will even believe that what they are doing is wrong.
All this boils down to one salient point for the work we do here at Pure Life Ministries. Our mission, “to lead Christians into purity,” is more urgent than ever, and there is no time to waste. Every single soul that comes through our doors is one who truly has been plucked “out of the midst of the overthrow,” and our steadfast commitment will remain to offer them the unfiltered truth found in the Word of God.
Repentance, surrender, consecration and self-sacrifice—these are just some of the truths that for ages have brought about deep transformation in the sin-sick, and they will remain the hallmarks of our ministry. And though there will always be those who reject the message of the Cross, we know that anyone who embraces its life-giving power will receive a life in God that liberates them from sin and radically transforms their character. It is for each of these precious souls that we offer our lives.
