Subject: Ministry Update

Chris Beisner's Testimony

I grew up in the church from an early age but was never aware of what a real relationship with Christ looked like. I modeled my life after my father. He worked very hard for his family, just like his father did before him. Generations of men rooted in their own strength instead of being rooted in the Lord. I believed that all I had to do was work hard and success would come. To my own demise, all of this came true. With hard work came success, with success came pride, and I reeked of it. After more than seven years in law enforcement, the Lord had enough of my pride. My pride turned me against my two beautiful children and my amazing wife. I entered into an adulterous relationship with a woman at work until I was exposed for who I truly was. I was pushed out of my job in law enforcement, and everything I built for myself was over. By the Lord’s grace, He placed a family in my life that had dealt with sexual sin years before and they introduced me to Pure Life Ministries.

Arriving at Pure Life Ministries was a wakeup call! I realized that when I tried to control my life, this was the result.

My wife was rooted in the Lord, so I knew there was more, but for once I just did not know how to get that. I didn’t know how to find the Lord, and that’s exactly what I told Him. I gave my life to the Lord on July 29, 2019 and submitted my way to His…whatever that would mean.

The months ahead were hard, and the Lord worked at His pace. Crying out to the Lord became a daily routine as I continued to pursue more of Him and heard more truth. By His grace He showed me what He designed marriage to look like and what it meant to be a biblical husband and father. He showed me how I had been the first thought on my mind, how I only looked out for my own interests, and how I used others to get what I wanted. The Lord showed me that exposing my sin to the world was His mercy.

Returning home brought new challenges. I walked away from my career and the “friends” I knew. I had no idea how important it was to be connected to the Lord through my morning devotions, a church body, and by being involved with other men’s groups.

What God has done in these short two years since Pure Life is amazing. The redemption of my life, my marriage, a father present in his children’s lives, a church family, a new career, etc. I stand today as a changed man only through the redeeming power of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus Returns, What Will He Find?

Our 22nd Annual Conference is now in the books, and what an incredible conference it was! With 770 people in attendance on Friday (200 of whom were alumni), and just under 700 people in attendance at our banquet on Saturday night, it was our largest conference ever! And the feedback we have gotten has been remarkable. Michael said, “This is the first time I attended the Pure Life Conference, and I am so full!” Carole added, “It was a powerful conference. God was honored and lifted up in worship and teaching. It was a spiritual reboot for us for sure. God be praised!”

Not only did we receive great feedback from our adult attendees, but from the kids as well. Part of our Kids Track this year included presentations from Answers in Genesis staff, and one of the highlights of the weekend was getting to hold a 15-foot-long python! Our Volunteer Team from Madison Place Community Church did a great job in teaching the kids about humility and putting others first. We are so thrilled to be able to offer a conference that ministers to the entire family!

The speakers, the worship, the fellowship, the breakout sessions, the Call to Purity Preconference, times of intercessory prayer, the first-ever Night of Worship, the Alumni and Friends Benefit Banquet – the Holy Spirit was present in all of it, convicting and challenging us to live faithful lives, awaiting Jesus’ return.

“I had been spending a lot of time with my kids watching television with them, totally distracted from seeking the Lord. I justified it because I was spending quality time with them, but in reality, I was just feeding my flesh. Upon coming home, I have repented to the Lord and replaced the time I spent watching TV with time in His word. Instead of watching television, [my son and I] now opt for other ways to spend time together. Just in these few days God has really given me a sense of peace when I open the Word. I am beyond grateful for the conference this year, and we are looking forward to next year!” - Greg

We thank the Lord for how He met so many people during this weekend, and give Him praise for the many lives that were impacted this weekend. Fanny Crosby said it best, “To God be the glory, great things He has done!”

God's Mercy Changes Lives

Nate Danser

Vice President for Ministry Outreach

For over 35 years, men and women who enroll in our counseling programs have heard the same message. “God didn’t bring you here to fix a small problem. He brought you here to give you a complete transformation in your inside world!” And we’ve been watching God do that very thing over and over.

The details of every transformed life will vary, but the key features are always the same. Pride is replaced with humility. Bitterness bows to forgiveness. Self-sufficiency gives way to dependence. Self-love dissolves in the love of God.

Without this deep transformation, a person’s behaviors may change, but their innermost character will remain just as selfish and self-centered as ever.

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of transformation is that we learn to become a vessel of mercy. When our inside world is filled with the love and mercy of God, it destroys the very roots of addiction—selfishness and pride. Becoming a vessel of mercy radically changes the way we look at life and people; life is no longer about taking, it’s about giving.

This year at our Alumni and Friends Benefit Banquet we featured the story of Delbert and Jenny Hill, two souls who were gripped by the mercy of God and went on to live out truly transformed lives.

Like so many Christian couples, Delbert and Jenny believed that marriage would be a cure for their respective problems. And they were both severely disappointed when they found out that marriage did not change his lustful heart or satisfy her longing soul.

Delbert eventually confessed to Jenny that he struggled with homosexuality and that he had even been unfaithful to her. A storm of emotions broke inside her, and she went to the Bible, wanting to know if she had the right to divorce Delbert. In that moment, the Lord made it very clear that divorce was permissible in her situation, but that it had never been God’s design or desire. And He also made something else clear—He was going to do something wonderful through this. So she chose to stay.

Delbert finally entered the Pure Life Ministries Residential Program. Because he had already tried several things to find freedom, he entered the Program with no hope that he would ever change. But then, one day, he came into contact with the presence of God. This was the beginning of the great change. He began to pursue the Lord with all his heart, and the self-protection, manipulation, jealousy and anger that had ruled him for years began to lose its hold.

Meanwhile, Jenny was being transformed in her own way. She began to realize that Delbert simply could never meet her needs, and that to demand this from their relationship was idolatry. Little by little, as she repented, the love of Jesus became so real to her. Suddenly she knew that even if the marriage ended, she would be OK. She had found in Jesus everything she had searched for all those years.

But Delbert and Jenny had both been changed from the inside out, so the marriage wasn’t over—it was reborn. It was so real to them that they had been given tremendous mercy, and so mercy began to flow out of their hearts in a multitude of ways.

A phone for a woman who had just gotten out of jail. Volunteering at a drug rehab. Providing a warm bed and a meal for a homeless man. Tracking down a job for a single mom. The needs were endless, but they did what they could for whoever God brought to them.

After years of living this mercy life, God began to give them a vision for a next step. They would found The Covering. It would be a Christ-centered residential and transitional home for women who wanted to be free from addiction, depression, domestic violence and other life struggles. This would be done in a family environment, and would focus on reunifying them with their children, preparing them for marriage and mothering, and building relational, emotional and spiritual health.

Nearly a year has passed since they officially opened their doors, and who knows how many lives will be changed because Delbert and Jenny were willing to become vessels for the mercy that was given to them?

We recently released a podcast series titled, Victory which you can listen to on our Smartphone app or wherever you get your podcasts. This powerful series will show you how to experience greater victory in your walk with the Lord as you learn how to live in His mercy.

Responding to God's Call

Over the past several years, it has been awesome to see our staff not only grow in size, but also spiritually. At the beginning of April, two of our senior staff members, Nate Danser and Jordan Yoshimine were both ordained as pastors! This decision was not made lightly. Over the years, these two men have proven themselves to be faithful to the Lord and His call to ministry. It has been a joy to watch them grow in the Lord.

After graduating the Residential Program in 2009, Nate Danser felt the Lord calling him to lay down his life at Pure Life Ministries. When Nate responded to that call and came on staff in 2009, he was placed in our Ministry Outreach department where he has faithfully served in positions such as: Media Assistant, Purity for Life Editor, Ministry Outreach Director, and now, the Vice President for Ministry Outreach. During the last few years, Nate has traveled to numerous events to speak for the Ministry and has joined the preaching rotation for our Sunday Chapel Services. What a blessing he has become, not only to the men in our Residential Program, but also to the staff as he has poured into them through prayer, counsel, and fellowship. Over the past decade, we have continued to watch God transform Nate more and more into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. All of the Leadership team here at Pure Life Ministries felt it was time for him to officially step into the pastoral role he was already walking in!

Jordan Yoshimine graduated the Pure Life Ministries Residential Program in 2011 and came on staff in March of 2012. After serving in our Speaker Ministry department for five years, Jordan had a burden for counseling where he has now been serving as both a Residential and OCAH counselor since 2015. In 2016, he joined the Senior Leadership Team and was promoted to the Director of At-Home Programs in 2021. Over the years, Jordan has demonstrated what it means to be a vessel of God’s mercy, as he has continued to fulfill the law of Christ by bearing the burdens of the men he counsels and the staff he mentors. As we have watched him mature in Christ and fight for a deeper walk with the Lord, we have seen him find victory over fear of man and lead the staff and students by serving them.

We are so blessed to have these two godly men now serving as pastors here at Pure Life Ministries!

In addition, over the past six months Josh, Trey, and Ryan have all completed the process to become certified biblical counselors and are now counseling men in both our Residential and OCAH programs. It is awesome to see these men respond to God’s call to lay down their lives so others can find life in Jesus Christ!

Becoming a Vessel of God's Mercy

What is success for a graduate of Pure Life Ministries?

Many people who come to us for help think of success as simply overcoming whatever illicit behavior has been dominating their lives. They hope that after a few months of counseling they will be able to move on and forget about that time in their life.

But we see success as something much more than that. When we see men and women’s hearts captured by God’s love and mercy; when we see them giving away that love to help those around them – that is success!

We want the same thing for you reading this newsletter. We believe you can help someone in your life who has been devastated by sexual sin. And there are lots of ways to do that. You could start a small group with our DVD Curriculum or host a Call to Purity Weekend at your church. Maybe there is a family member you can share a Pure Life resource with or a friend you can point to our website. Perhaps it is simply sharing about what God has done in your own life.

Whatever the need may be, we pray that you will take a step of faith to be God’s vessel of mercy.
