Dear Friend,

In 1986 when I began Pure Life Ministries, two pathways were presented before me. I could either embrace psychotherapy as the source of solutions to people’s problems or I could base our teachings and answers on the Word of God. There really was no choice because, although psychotherapy was widely accepted in the church, I knew that God was leading me in a different path.

Jesus told the Jews who had claimed to believe in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) I can say that in all my years of counseling, I have never seen anything to refute that basic truth!

As a contrast, in those same years of ministry, I have seen or heard about the most unbiblical forms of counsel imaginable—all presented in the Name of Christ! Just three such “pop” teachings that come to mind are the need to get in touch with one’s inner child, or to talk to an imaginary person from the past, or to enhance one’s self-esteem. It seems that so long as the teacher has letters behind his name, no teaching is too crazy or unbiblical to present. Christians will accept practically anything!

I thank God that He made it clear to me that His word is the only trustworthy source to go to for our counsel. It is true that God’s word does not flatter us or scratch our itching ears—but we can always count on it being true and being full of wisdom. Those who come to us for help are not always going to hear what they want to hear, but they can rest in the knowledge that they will receive truth that is rooted in Scripture.

When you give to this ministry, you are helping men and women come into the knowledge of the truth, the only truth that has the power to help them with their problems and to save their souls. For those of you who give to this ministry, whether financially or by prayer, I just want to thank you for your faithfulness. I know that one day soon, we will realize just how many souls have truly been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light through our efforts and your gifts and prayers.

We pray that you and your family have a blessed Christmas!
