Are you feeling any energy drains in your life?
Hey Friend,

A funny thing happened to me yesterday which caused me to make a decision to stop doing something that was draining my energy and I wanted to share this with you because, maybe you have these things too?

Now that I am finally regaining some mental and physical energy from the whole "ruptured appendix, massive infection and surgery" thing, I am using my energy to clean and declutter my space.

I can't tell you how good this feels though I am sure you can relate because when you have been physically unable to do anything but the very basics and you are watching things pile up around you, you know just how frustrating and upsetting that is.

So while I was cleaning my whiteboard and thinking about what I was going to post on social media that day, I suddenly became aware of all this resistance to doing it.

Posting daily on my Facebook page has been something I have been doing consistently for over 12 years now, way before chronic illness crashed into my life.

As a business owner, its just something you are supposed to do and I have to say, getting to connect with our community on my page has really been so wonderful for me.

But the thing is, the powers that be keep making it harder and harder to get that connection unless I am willing to pay quite a lot of money to Meta.

This year especially it's become almost impossible to even see comments on my posts without actually going and looking for them.

Then there is constant spammers that need to be deleted, the messages or sometimes rude or aggressive posts and it's become so much work and effort going into something that doesn't even belong to me.

Kind of like having a full time job but you pay them for the work that you do and they keep making it increasingly harder to work there.

I hit me yesterday just how time consuming and draining social media has become for me.

So I made a decision to take a complete social media break for August and give myself some space to see if I miss it or not because like any other difficult relationship, it's draining me and I am starting to resent it.

Which got me wondering, are there things in your life Friend that are draining you but it's either so habitual or so subtle that you haven't really stopped to think about the impact it's having on you?

The best way of identifying energy drains is that you start actively wanting to avoid them.

You see a certain call or text coming in and you feel a sense of dread or heaviness.

You have a task to do but you feel real resistance or low level anxiety that goes along with it.

Whether it's a person, a task or a situation, theres a feeling inside that it's something you don't really want to do and continuing to do something that doesn't feel good is not only physically draining, but emotionally draining as well.

And over time all these energy drains no matter how small they seem, do take a toll on you with increasing stress and resentment.

You will know when you are on the right track when thinking about not having to do the thing feels much more like relief and freedom than anxiety and fear.

And personally, I would much rather use my precious energy and time on things that add more good to my life.
