You ever notice how your mind can take one thing somebody said and turn it into a whole movie? You replay it, rewrite it, argue with them in your head, and then wonder why you don’t feel peaceful.
That’s what A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 72 is helping you look at: “Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.” In plain language, every time you hold on to a grievance, you are saying, “If this person, this situation, this body, this money, or this past were different, then I could be happy.” And the Course is telling you that ego's plan will never give you the peace you want.
So this week, don’t try to be spiritually impressive. Just get honest. Where are you still waiting for something outside you to change before you let yourself have peace? Where are you still telling yourself that somebody owes you an apology before you can be happy? Forgiveness does not mean you approve of what happened. It means you are willing to stop using that person or situation as the reason you cannot be free.
The grievance may feel justified, but ask yourself: is it giving you peace, or is it just keeping the pain alive?
If you’d like help applying these ideas instead of just thinking about them, I invite you to connect with me through Clarity Sessions, Coaching & Mentoring, or by joining the Mighty Companions Miracle Community. The Mighty Companions Miracle Community gives you steady support for actually practicing the Course — with live gatherings, weekly Study Guide Journals, unlisted ACIM playlists, the Language of Love Glossary, and exclusive workshops for applying ACIM in daily life.
This week, when a grievance comes up, pause before you attack, withdraw, or replay the story again. Ask yourself:
Where am I saying, “If this were different, I’d be happy”?
What am I making responsible for my peace?
Am I willing to see this another way?
You don’t have to force the answer. You don’t have to fix yourself. Just become willing to stop attacking your own happiness by making peace depend on something outside you.
Your peace is not waiting on them to change. It is waiting on your willingness to choose again.
