Subject: Register for the Council Meeting by Noon Today!

Help fight for affordability in Austin

Council Meeting registration DEADLINE is TODAY 12pm

YOUR VOICE MATTERS: Take action against higher property taxes by noon today!

If you’re concerned about ever-increasing property taxes and Austin’s affordability crisis, then I could use your help—but the clock is ticking.

Tomorrow the Austin City Council will vote on this year’s budget in the face of a major financial shortfall. Some of my colleagues have proposed fixing the problem by raising property taxes an astounding 19%. Combined with increased utility fees and other local taxes, the average Austinite could pay almost $1,000 more than last year.

Hard-working residents who already struggle with Austin's high cost of living will be the ones most impacted by a tax increase. That's why I’m opposed to this level of spending. Please join me in this effort, and register your opposition to Agenda Item 001 no later than 12:00 PM today!

Registrants will also be given an option to speak before council members on Wednesday, either in-person or remotely. If you choose to do so, here are a few comments you can make:

  • “The Austin City Council likes to talk about affordability, but the expensive tax hikes you’ve proposed will worsen the problem.”

  • “We must ensure first responders, teachers, students, and our most vulnerable neighbors are able to continue living here”

  • “City Hall must take a smarter, more efficient approach to spending instead of burdening residents and small business owners with higher property tax bills.”

After you’ve registered your opposition, take one minute to contact the Austin City Council and tell them you're AGAINST a big property tax increase! Use this easy form:

Austin’s skyrocketing cost of living has already forced so many residents to leave this community. Please contact my council colleagues today and tell them to vote AGAINST the Tax Rate Election.

Thank you to everyone who is taking action to champion affordability here in Austin.
