Subject: Austin's 19% tax increase

I need your help

City Council tax rate vote this Wednesday – take action!

Does a 19% tax increase seem fair to you?

Austin’s hardworking residents struggle with a lack of affordability, so I’m fighting City Hall’s unsustainable spending—and I’m asking for you to join me.

On Wednesday, August 13, the City Council will vote on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. To fund it, some of my colleagues have proposed a Tax Rate Election (TRE) that could raise your property taxes by almost 19%, the biggest hike in 35 years.

When combined with utility-fee increases and other new costs, the average Austin household would pay nearly $1,000 more than last year. All of our neighbors – including retirees, families, renters, teachers, and locally-owned businesses – will be impacted.

Please take one minute to contact the Austin City Council by August 13 and tell them you're AGAINST a big property tax increase! Use this easy form:

We need to fund our first responders and other core services, but City Hall must do so by cutting nonessential spending, not by burdening residents with an unfair tax increase.

After you’ve contacted the council, make your voice heard during the meeting at City Hall on August 13! Register for Agenda Item 001 and mark AGAINST.

You may speak in person or remotely, or you can simply register as "Against" the TRE if you prefer not to speak. Each resident who chooses to speak will have a maximum of two minutes to address the council. My team and I will provide talking points and other information ahead of time. Registration closes promptly at noon on Tuesday, August 12 - please register now.

Austin’s skyrocketing cost of living has already forced so many residents to leave this community. Enough is enough. Contact my council colleagues by August 12th and tell them to protect you and your neighbors by voting AGAINST the TRE.
