A Beacon of Hope for Our Forgotten Heroes
"Even when the world turns its back, a single act of kindness can relight the soul and remind a hero they are never truly alone." - Chaplain David
Did you know that right now, a staggering number of our nation’s heroes are living behind the walls of our jails and prisons? Across the country, there are over 181,500 veterans in the system, with thousands more in county jails who are so difficult to track. They served our country with honor, and now they face some of their darkest battles, often feeling isolated and forgotten. But they are not forgotten by us.
This is where the mission of CA Jail Outreach shines a light in the darkness. We believe in second chances and in honoring every veteran’s service, no matter their current circumstances. We reach through the bars with hands of hope, compassion, and tangible support.
For one combat veteran in an Oregon jail facing capital murder charges, we are a lifeline. We bridge the lonely distance with phone calls, letters of encouragement, and the comfort of a good book, reminding him he is not alone. For another hero who was transferred out of state, we are his partners in rebuilding, helping him find stable housing and crafting a resume that reflects his incredible skills. We recently had the privilege of helping a veteran in Florida, advocating for him until we could secure a meeting with a judge who specializes in veterans' cases, ensuring he received the understanding and assistance he needed to heal.
Our support is also immediate and practical for the families, holding everything together on the outside. We assist with family EBT cards and send one-time Instacart grocery deliveries, because we know that supporting our veterans means supporting their loved ones too.
An amazing door has opened for us, and we ask you to join us in prayer. We have been invited to host a table at the local Veterans Stand Down event! This is a powerful opportunity for us to connect with our community.
Please pray with us that the Lord will send us family members who are loving someone in the jail system. Pray that our table will be a beacon of hope, a safe place where they feel seen, heard, and loved. Thank you for your support and prayers.
