Is Watching too Many Sports Worth It?
Ken Ebright

“It is foolish to laugh all the time, and having fun doesn’t accomplish anything.” Ecclesiastes 2:2 (NCV)

God is not saying it is foolish to laugh. He is saying it is foolish to laugh all the time. He is talking about balance.

The professional football team where I used to live, had a perfect season one year. I thought for sure they would win the Super Bowl. But that hope ended when a field goal was missed in the championship game.

When I moved away to another city, the Lord convicted me about watching sports too often. I know watching sports is not a sin, but maybe, at times, I used it as an excuse to avoid other things I could be doing for God’s kingdom.

“I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was alone and away from home, and you invited me into your house.” Matt 25:35 (NCV)

A better use of my time occurred one Sunday afternoon when along with a few men from my Bible study, we raked leaves for a woman who recently lost her husband. She really appreciated the love and help. I knew for certain that day, I had let God do something through me, accomplishing much more than I would sitting alone in front of my TV.

When we become Christians, we all want to help others, especially the lost. These simple acts of kindness that show the love of the Lord to others can bring the lost to Jesus and encourage the faith of other believers. Maybe we could miss a few games and rakes some leaves instead. Or, when we do watch the game, why not invite someone over who needs a friend in Jesus.

After all, don’t we want to hear God say, “Well done good and faithful servant?”

Radical New Covenant Bible Studies for Radical Freedom in Christ

Jesus poured out His blood for the New Covenant of grace and truth, replacing the Old Covenant letter of the law of Moses. Believers are exclusively under the New Covenant, the last will and testament of Jesus that began after the cross.

And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Luke 22:20

Perfect to equip the believer for defending their faith. Ideal to send to a skeptical friend or family member. Great for teens and young adults who have never reviewed the objective evidence for God's existence and identity.

An in-depth study of the factual evidence leads a person to realize how little faith they need to believe, while they gain great faith at the same time.

Running close to 5 stars with over 180 online reviews.

Recent Amazon Review:

"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus; but truth defeats lies every time and never forsakes the believer." 2-18-17
