Shine the Light on Him – Toni M. Babcock
“My days are like a lengthening shadow, and I wither away like grass. But you oh Lord are enthroned forever; your name endures to all generations,” (Psalm 102:11-12 CSB).
There is nothing more powerful in our spiritual life than knowing we serve the One whose name will endure to all generations. This carries many positive implications for the believer.
Because God’s name endures, we realize we don’t need to be number one. We don’t need to feel compelled to earn the acceptance of others — we’re already accepted in Christ through faith. Being accepted by God, we don’t have to ‘pound the table’ for respect, because God is for us, and that’s what really counts.
More than that, when the focus changes from ‘how can I make myself known’ to ‘how can I make Jesus known’ we realize in spite of our obscurity, our rejections, or our perceived ‘lack of talent’ – the Lord is enthroned forever, and we’re enthroned in Him. We can then rest in the assurance he’s got a job for us to do on earth that brings Him glory — it doesn’t matter if it’s a lowly job because it’s all about Him.
Keep these things in mind when you feel the ‘shadows lengthen’ and your faith starts growing dim. Or when you begin to wonder, “does anything I’m doing for Christ really matter?” Never mind all that. Just turn your eyes toward Jesus and keep shining the light on Him.
