In Light of Christ’s Suffering - Ken Ebright
“Using thorny branches, they made a crown, put it on his head, and put a stick in his right hand. Then the soldiers bowed before Jesus and made fun of him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Jesus. Then they took his stick and began to beat him on the head. After they finished, the soldiers took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.” (Matthew 27:29-31” NCV)
My suffering is nothing compared to what Jesus suffered for my sins. I’ve experienced pain — but not like his. My most painful memory is when I was seven years old having surgery. My parents told me I was put to sleep for the surgery, but even now I’m not convinced I was totally under. I still remember the doctor’s scrubs and recall someone holding me down when I should have been asleep. I also recall my finger being pricked with a small blade-like instrument with a pointy tip. Needless to say, I was terrorized. I still have doctor phobia to this day.
Still, my childhood trauma cannot compare to Christ’s suffering. They pressed a crown of thorns upon His head. They spat on him and beat him. They nailed him to a cross using nails resembling metal stakes. When I think about the pain and suffering of Jesus, it pales in comparison to mine.
Have you looked at your suffering in the light of Jesus? Jesus died to pay for my sins and yours so we can spend eternity with him. If you have not already, I hope you will turn to Jesus and trust in Him today.
