HOW AM I KNOWN? by John Custer

A lady with three small children came into Chick-fil-A, taking a seat. Tonie, the dining room manager, received her order and served her food. Jim, her husband, was the supervisor on duty and just as helpful.

What strikes me as noteworthy, was that Jim had been a commercial airplane pilot, and Tonie had been a stewardess. Several years ago, the doctor prescribed Jim medicine, which prevented him from being a pilot. Jim was known as a pilot, and sometimes people have their whole identity tied up in their career. If they lose their job, they feel like they have lost their identity. However, Jim was a genuinely loving person before he became a pilot, and he continued to be just as warm and caring as a Chick-fil-A supervisor. I always enjoy stopping there for coffee because of their radiant love.

Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35 (NIV)

I have been known as a funeral director, a missionary, a bicyclist, and probably a few other things. But I aspire to be known as a Christian who loves others. Obviously, to be known as a loving follower of Jesus, we must love others consistently.

Love is also how we are known by God, our love for Him.

But whoever loves God is known by God. 1 Cor 8:3 (NIV)

So, where is your focus? When your name comes up, do people think of you first as loving, or something else?

“Lord, help me be known as a true disciple of yours because of my love for you and others.”

If false, Christianity is an irrelevant hoax. If true, Christianity is the most important fact for every human being. This little book concisely shows you why Christianity is true and what that means for you. No fluff, just the facts!" Dr. Frank Turek author/co-author of I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist
