Finley to Speak at
ASI Columbia Union event
Mark Finley will be the keynote speaker for ASI Columbia Union’s spring convention on April 24-25.

An experienced evangelist, Finley and his wife, Teenie, currently offer classes on health, effective preaching for lay people, church growth and more at their Living Hope School of Evangelism in Haymarket, Va. Finley is a retired General Conference vice president and is well-known as a speaker on the Hope Channel and It Is Written. He and his wife have a long-standing relationship with national organization, spanning more than 25 years.

The theme for Columbia Union’s convention will be “Lord, Give Us This Mountain.”

“God has given us all an assignment, strategically placing us in ministries and industries,” says ASI Columbia Union President Mark Brown of the theme. We need to feel “confident that he will equip us to conquer this space for His kingdom.”

The theme was chosen due to the world events that continue to highlight the soon return of Jesus. The goal is to encourage business and ministry owners to increase their commitment to the field where God has placed them.

Workshops focusing on stewardship in all aspects of our lives to get in “more than a conqueror mode” will be available during the two-day event, Brown says.

Pastor Richard Martin will offer devotional thoughts for spiritual wellness. Bonita Shields, North American Division vice president for Ministries, will present strategies for whole-life management. Teenie Finley, a healthy lifestyle advocate, will offer cooking lessons to help physical health. Dr. H. Jean Wright will focus on strengthening our mental health.

Registration for the conference, which will be held at Living Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church in Haymarket, Va., will begin Feb. 2 at cuasi.org.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It is with sincere pleasure that I celebrate my second opportunity as president of this great chapter to say…Happy New Year!  By now all the shock, references and inferences associated with welcoming in the year 2020 has been heard and processed, so I will spare you any additional quips in that regard. I will, however, continue to build on the implications of what it means to welcome in a new decade, with its inherent call to do more, go higher, grow, improve, and to take on the challenges previously avoided.

It is in light of this that we excitedly remind ourselves to be of good courage, for the Almighty God is for us and with us. We believe this truth has led us to establish as the theme for our upcoming spring convention – “Lord, Give Us This Mountain.” It is a call for us all to fully realize what God has gifted and prepared us to do for Him in these last days. As I look around, I see that it has already begun. I am hearing more and more stories of the great things God is doing in the lives of His people, here in the Columbia Union and around the world. As I have said several times before, we are living in an amazing time!

With that said, I leave you with a request and a reminder. First the request – tell us your stories of how God is using you. We would like to share them with and inspire the ASI Columbia Union community by including them in our monthly newsletter. Now the reminder – our spring convention will be held on April 24-25, 2020. Please plan on being there. We are expecting and ask that you join us in praying for this to be a watershed event. I thank God for you all.  Blessings and let’s stay excited and engaged.

Your fellow servant,
Mark A. Brown, ASI Columbia Union President
