Praising God in the Storm

Grace C. L. Dorsey believes the journey God placed her on was for a reason: to help her learn to walk by faith.

Life changed when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, altering her work as a nurse and her personal life as it had for so many others. She would find God also knew there would be even more for her to bear.

Dorsey, author and an elder at New Life-Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland, will be among those sharing their experiences and lessons learned at Praising God In the Midst of the Storm, ASI Columbia Union’s virtual event at 7:30 p.m. ET April 20. Lillian Torres, assistant evangelism director for the Pennsylvania Conference, will offer a message of hope for all who have experienced loss, be it of loved ones, in business or in ministry and for the many challenges of these times.

For Dorsey, the events of Feb. 10 are still deeply etched in her mind. That morning, her son Brent Ruben Joshua Dorsey, 30, told her he wasn’t feeling well. Knowing he had been diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, where the body turns on itself and destroys platelets, she was concerned.

Brent Dorsey said he didn’t need an ambulance, so Grace Dorsey decided she would get ready for the day and then go to his apartment and check on him.

She debated about whether to hurry or to have morning devotions as usual. She decided to spend time in prayer and texted a few other people, asking them to pray for him too.

When she arrived at his apartment complex, a series of heartrending events left her at the entrance of his building. Police officers responding to her call and later emergency medical technicians would arrive at his home. She wouldn’t see her son until he was wheeled out of his apartment on a gurney.

Brent Dorsey lived only a few hours longer. In that time, Grace Dorsey spoke to him and prayed. The sadness of that day still weighs heavily on her emotions and yet there is hope as she speaks.

“I know without a shadow of a doubt that he is going to be in the first resurrection,” she said.

She holds on to Matthew 6:33 to help her through each day.

“Often we as Christians talk faith but we don’t walk faith,” she said. “God has had me on this journey where I walk faith.”

She hopes to share the lessons God has taught her at the April 20 event. To register for the event, click this link.

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD

In this time where we are all hidden behind wearing masks and social distancing, there are many who have remained isolated from friends and family. Many of our churches are still not open. But God! He has not separated Himself from us!

When we have eyes that choose to see, the evidence of His mercy and grace are every where we look. As we fellowship with each other we are hearing and sharing testimonies of His mighty love and protection. As we continue to hear doom and gloom on most media sources, we need to be set apart with the proclamation of how

great our God is. He has blessed us, with strength and courage, allowing us to put one foot in front of the other as we face each day. He has provided us wisdom and discernment to navigate these difficult times. He has protected us as he has covered us with his mighty wings. But God!

We have Victory in Jesus! The first quarter of 2021 is now history! As we enter in the second quarter, it is Spring! A time for renewal, growth, hope and promise! Let’s choose to be intentional in our relationship with God, intentional about inviting the Holy Spirit to be a participant in our every day events.

Let us hold on to Isaiah 43:2: When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you fo through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through he fire of opposition, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

GOD'S PROMISE

A PRAYER FOR YOU

"For the peek of dawn that announces both the end of night and the promise of a new day, for the rainbow that announces both the end of the storm and the promise of a brighter tomorrow, for the pillow that both soaks up my tears and provides rest for my weary head, O God, we trust You, we wait on You, and we thank You.  In Jesus name we pray, amen."
