Client: Why does life always have to feel so chaotic? Anytime I start to believe I'm gaining control, something unexpected happens and... Bam. It's chaos all over again.
This client isn't alone. I've heard this a lot over the years (from attorneys and other high-achievers).
We all want more control. And time.
So, we focus on all the wrong things—the things we cannot control.
Like other people's opinions.
And the actions of others.
And also, time.
Want to know the actual solution, Friend?
[Buckle up because your brain probably won't like the answer.]
Acceptance.
Acceptance that:
When things don't go as planned, expected, or wanted, it's a waste of energy to fight it, lament over it, and/or wish things could be different. And honestly, it's not worth the mental blowback (reste assured, there IS blowback).
This is what letting go is all about.
I know, I know. What I’m asking is hard. But so is fighting against reality (I'd say THAT is actually harder).
The good news is that, once you stop fighting reality, you can start working within it (where control resides).
XO,
Heather
P.S. The client mentioned above? 18 months later, she’s raising her kids, scaling her law firm, and allowing the "chaos" of life to just... Be (confidently).
The chaos didn't decrease. Her resistance to it did, impacting how she experiences that chaos.
