Subject: The problem you can't seem to solve?

Do you know if it's a math or a mindset problem?

Success Without Sacrifice

N E W S L E T T E R

Because real success leaves space for real life.

Ever have a problem that you just can’t seem to solve, Friend?

You keep wracking your brain trying to come up with the "right" answer. Maybe you think you have the solution (and try to fix the problem). Yet the problem remains.

You might be trying to solve the wrong problem.

For most of my life, I’ve tackled problems as “math” problems.

  • Not enough clients? Do more marketing.

  • Not enough time? Work more efficiently.

  • Team underperforming? Hire better people.

But I’ve come to realize that many “math” problems are actually mindset problems in disguise. As an example (from a real-life client):

New client close rates dropped by 50% over a period of 4 months. She was originally thinking she just needed better leads. Yet nothing in the firm’s marketing or advertising had changed.

The real issue?

After taking on two nightmare clients, she no longer trusted herself to spot red flags. On intake calls, she was hesitating, hedging, and unconsciously pushing good clients away.

That's not math. That's mindset.

The solution? We revamped her intake script so she could quickly (and easily) identify red flags.

The result? She regained her confidence and improved upon her prior close rate.

HOW THIS SHOWS UP

In Everyday Life

This isn’t just a lawyer-specific (or business growth) issue:

"I need more hours in the day."

  • Math solution: Better time management system.

  • Mindset truth: You're saying yes to everything because you believe your value comes from being indispensable.

"My teenager won't listen to me."

  • Math solution: More rules, stricter consequences.

  • Mindset truth: You're still parenting the 8-year-old version of them because accepting they're growing up feels like losing them.

"I can't lose weight."

  • Math solution: Fewer calories, more exercise.

  • Mindset truth: Food is how you've learned to manage stress, and until you address that, no meal plan will stick.

"My team isn't performing."

  • Math solution: New KPIs, better training.

  • Mindset truth: You're micromanaging because you believe "no one can do it as well as you".

NEXT STEPS

Determining Math vs. Mindset

So, how can you spot the difference between mindset vs. math?

You might have a MATH problem if:

  • A clear metric is off (that’s obviously solved through math).

  • External circumstances clearly changed.

  • A simple change yields immediate results.

But you probably have a MINDSET problem if:

  • You've tried multiple solutions that "should" work.

  • The problem keeps recurring in different forms.

  • You feel emotional resistance to the obvious solution.

Your brain prefers math problems (it doesn't want to have to work on beliefs). But the problems that matter most - the ones truly holding you back - rarely respond to formulas.

So, take your most persistent problem. The one that won't budge despite everything you've tried, and ask:

What's the source of the symptom you keep trying to fix?
