THIJS WEINKAUF - Basketball Player
This weeks featured athlete is the type of player you may have to actually kick out of the gym some nights. Thijs is an absolute gym rat. He takes advantage of every opportunity he has at STACK to get better. Most nights Thijs spends over 3 hours at STACK between practice and speed and agility training. He has dedicated himself to improvement and the results show. He is one of the fastest and most explosive players for his age group. Thijs is the kind of player coaches want on the team. He is self motivated, humble and hungry. He never complains just shows up every day focused and ready to attack the day. Thijs displays the qualities every coach wants to see in their players. In todays world it is easy to get distracted but this young athlete is focused on getting better and no one can stop him. We can not wait to see what the future holds for this special young athlete.
What's going on?
This week was full of fun and hard work at STACK. Many STACK athletes took advantage of the time off from school to attend STACK No School Basketball camp. Instead of sitting at home playing video games these athletes spent the week working hard on their basketball skills. STACK hosts basketball camps throughout the year when there is no school, click the link below to register for our next one.
Tips for Athletes
Mental Toughness
Having mental toughness is important for young athletes, as they are prone to outbursts of emotion due to their age and inexperience. It is important for adults to help their young children develop mental toughness, as it will help guide participants in youth sports about overcoming adversity.
One way adults can help is by having young athletes learn from every experience. Sure, losing a game is never fun, but learning from mistakes can make it sting less. If athletes learn to use everything as a learning opportunity, they will be more prepared to succeed in the future. Travel Basketball Player Development
During the winter season STACK works along side town travel basketball programs in Bergen County to help develop players skills and assist with providing additional practice time for those towns in need of it. We started this program with Mahwah Travel Basketball, and have started working with Ramsey Travel Basketball this year. We have dedicated ourselves to giving teams the best opportunity possible to improve their players basketball skills.

Did you know?
Did you know Coach Ryan's father Gene Tremblay helped start travel basketball in North Jersey during the 1980's. Coach Ryan's father has created a sports legacy in his home town of Mahwah, by priding himself on sportsmanship, work ethic and fairness. He believed in teaching players not only how to conduct themselves as athletes, but what it takes to improve. When opposing coaches shunned players and denied them access to their teams, he gave those players a chance and ultimately, changed their lives. Coach Ryan carries on his father lessons today by instilling the same values in the families we work with at STACK.
