Devs are coding faster. Coding reviews are eating the gains


AI coding tools lift the number of tasks completed by about 21%. Review time goes up 91%. Bain’s 2026 Global Technology Report puts both numbers in the same report, and the gap between them is where the productivity story quietly comes apart.


Bain’s own recommendation is to build a deterministic quality harness rather than ask people to read faster, which is an argument we have been making for a while, now arriving from somewhere else.
