Future-Proofing Your Business: The Long-Term Benefits of Converting COBOL Applications to Java

Developed way back in the late 1950s, COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language) was designed to be easily understood and used by non-technical business users. As a result, it became the dominant programming language for business applications during the early days of computing. It's still with us today, which speaks to its reliability as a programming language.

Enter the modern age, where customers, workers, and (and many in the C-suite) have modern expectations beyond mere reliability. Fortunately, smart engineers have been hard at work finding viable ways to add modern functionality to their legacy applications piece by piece.

Among the suite of incremental modernization projects is the conversion of COBOL to Java. Our recent article explores the benefits of just such a project.

We're Back from SHARE Orlando...

To the many who dropped by our booth at SHARE Orlando in early March, it was great to meet you!

Many stayed for our presentation on the use of AI prompts in mainframe software analysis. We discussed how AI prompts guide models to understand complex systems, helping provide human-digestible analysis reports and specifications.

We also went through the technical steps to create a prompt model connecting a COBOL/DB2 application source to a ChatGPT cloud engine API.

For more information on this exciting new technology, get in touch and we'll be glad to explore it further with you.
