Subject: Cinemapolis Recommends - Virtual Cinema 🎥 Updates for November 25, 2020

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

It's been a challenging year for everyone, but there's still plenty to be thankful for here at the cinema. Namely, we're thankful for all of YOU who have been so supportive and patient during the prolonged hiatus. Preparations on the space continue, and we still hope to safely re-open the doors sometime soon.

In the meantime, we have some great new offerings in virtual cinema to keep the quality cinema flowing right into your homes. We're VERY excited to partner with our friends at The Roxy Theatre in Missoula, Montana to offer a special treat for families - the 2020 Kiddomatic Children's Film Festival! Nearly forty films to keep cinephiles of all ages engaged and entertained, and the all access pass is just $20!

As always, the full listing of all current and upcoming virtual films, including those titles ending tomorrow, can be found on our Virtual Cinema page.

We're approaching the all-important "lame duck" session of Congress, when another COVID relief package is sure to be on the docket. The movie theater operators of America are desperate for help from Congress. Without such help, 70% of the theaters in the country could file for bankruptcy or close permanently by the end of the year. More than 70,000 jobs could be lost permanently.

Senators Schumer, Cardin and Shaheen have included relief for movie theaters as part of the Save Our Stages initiative, and SOS is now included in their COVID relief bill. We seek a bipartisan solution for pandemic relief now that would include these provisions to preserve moviegoing in America.

WHAT WE'RE ASKING
ADVOCATE FOR A BIPARTISAN SOLUTION THAT SUPPORTS THE EXPANDED SAVE OUR STAGES ACT:

  • Support an expanded SOS Act that provides grants to performance venues, live theater, and movie theaters, calculated at up to 45% of gross 2019 revenues or $12 million per company, whichever is less. Also allows a supplemental grant for businesses that have lost over 80% in revenue.

  • Movie theaters and live venues are among the hardest-hit industries that will be the slowest to recover from the pandemic.

  • SOS is the only proposal that offers the right amount of FLEXIBLE funding that will be the bridge that keeps the theaters from going dark forever. Across the country this legislation would save over 3,500 theaters.
