Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

As temperatures drop and snowflakes fall, we all are heading back inside. The cinema is closed, but you can still cuddle up with a good movie, thanks to several new additions to our virtual cinema slate arriving on Friday.

But first, be sure to join us for a very special VIRTUAL TALKBACK  being organized by the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. On Thursday, December 10 at 6 pm, FLEFF co-directors, Dr. Patricia Zimmerman and Dr. Thomas Shevory, will present a discussion on the new film 76 Days and the global health crisis as it continues to unfold. Moderated by Dr. Stewart Auyash, Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education at Ithaca College, the panel will include Rikun Zhu, a curator and independent film director and producer from China, and Dr. Elizabeth Wijaya, Assistant Professor of East Asian Cinema in the Department of Visual Studies and Cinema Studies Institute of the University of Toronto. Pre-register now for this special Zoom event!

As always, the full listing of all current and upcoming virtual films, including those titles ending tomorrow, can be found on our Virtual Cinema page.

VIRTUAL CINEMA
MONSOON

“A graceful and poignant take on the immigrant experience."

Kit returns to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time since he was six years old when his family fled the country in the aftermath of the Vietnam-American war. There he meets Lee, his estranged second cousin, Linh, a young Vietnamese student, and arranges an online date that turns into something more with Lewis, an American clothing designer.

Struggling to make sense of himself in a city he’s no longer familiar with, he embarks on a personal journey across the country that opens up the possibility for friendship, love and happiness.

Director: Hong Khaou
Writer: Hong Khaou

VIRTUAL CINEMA
 THE WEASELS' TALE

“A slickly calibrated, classically structured dark comedy that again highlights Juan Jose Campanella’s skill at pressing his viewers’ buttons across a range of genres."

The story of a group of four long-time friends, including a used-to-be-famous actress, her now disabled husband and an actor as well, who she eclipsed, and the sharp-tongued screenwriter and director of her greatest hits. Their coexistence is menaced by a young couple who, feigning to be lost, slowly insinuate themselves into their lives.

Financial gain, seduction, betrayal, and memories run amok are the elements that create the recipe for this delightful game of cat…and weasel.

Director: Juan Jose Campanella
Writers: Juan Jose Campanella & Darren Kloomok
Stars: Graciela Borges, Oscar Martinez, Luis Brandon, Marcos Mundstock, Clara Lago, Nicolas Francella

Spanish with English Subtitles

GIVE THE GIFT OF VIRTUAL CINEMA

COMING SOON TO VIRTUAL CINEMA

I hope you can include US on your gift list this year by making a year-end contribution to the Cinemapolis Annual Fund. We're less than $15,000 away from our 2020 fundraising goal, and every bit will help us make it through the winter. With COVID numbers in our region again on the rise, we will continue to stay closed until it is safe for you and our staff to once again enjoy cinematic experiences together in the heart of downtown Ithaca.

Hope to see you at the movies again soon!

Brett Bossard,
Executive Director

Cinemapolis is proud to be a certified living wage employer. As a response to the Covid-19 crisis, the cinema is temporarily closed. All staff will receive full pay during this closure. The purchase of virtual screening tickets, gift cards, and theater memberships all help support Cinemapolis to compensate the staff throughout this unprecedented time.
