Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
Take a break from the heatwave this weekend and check out TWO new films that open on Friday:
  • Writer/director Shana Feste unites a stellar cast in the semi-autobiographical family dramedy, Boundaries. Vera Famiga stars as Laura, a woman estranged from her pot-dealing father (Christopher Plummer), who's forced to load up dad and her son for a cross country road trip.  MaryAnn Johanson of FlikFilosopher  says "the cast is a joy to spend time with."

  • Perfectly timed for the season, the Japanese animated romance Fireworks pops with color and teen angst.  Produced by the team that brought us Your Name and co-directed by Miyazaki protege Nobuyuki Takeuchi, the film uses a time-twisty plot to play out a series of what-ifs among a trio of star-crossed teens, all while pondering the full Japanese title: "Fireworks, should we see them from the side, or below?" Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian says it "brings back dreamy teen angst like the strongest of madeleines."
And the week has more to offer than JUST these two openers. After the weekend, put a note on your calendar for a special animated event:
Abramorama, Apple Corps Ltd. and UMG have teamed up to give Beatles fans of all ages the opportunity to come together and share in this visually stunning movie and soundtrack! Yellow Submarine has been restored in 4K digital resolution, and the film’s songs and score were remixed in 5.1 stereo surround sound at UMG’s Abbey Road Studios. Due to the delicate nature of the hand-drawn original artwork, no automated software was used in the digital clean-up of the film’s restored photochemical elements. This was all done by hand, frame by frame.
While planning your next week at the movies, get in here soon to catch First Reformed. It has its final screenings on Thursday, July 5th!
 See you at the movies!
