Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The last of the after-parties are closing up shop in Hollywood, but we still have a few Oscar winners sticking around, and a NEW big winner joins them this Friday:
  • A Fantastic Woman took home the trophy for best foreign language film at this year's Academy Awards. The fifth feature from Chilean director Sebastian Lelio (Gloria), the film is an extraordinary character study of Marina, a transgender singer and waitress dealing with the death (and family) of her older boyfriend. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter calls it "Shocking and enraging, funny and surreal, rapturous and restorative...a film of startling intensity and sinuous mood shifts wrapped in a rock-solid coherence of vision."

  • Also coming Friday is 7 Days in Entebbe, which reenacts the remarkable true-life story of the 1976 Air France hijacking and harrowing rescue mission that ensued. Don't miss this one-week limited engagement

And even before we get to the weekend, there are some special events not to miss, including one TONIGHT:

Ithaca’s Olive Branch Film Series is once again programming select screenings at Cinemapolis. The group brings cinema by, from, and about Palestine to the Ithaca community to promote exploration and discussion of the complexities of Palestinian life, at home and in exile. Both feature films and documentaries are shown.

The Spring 2018 series kicks off on Wednesday, March 14th with a 7 pm screening of the award winning 2017 documentary, Ghost Hunting. The screening will be followed by a facilitated conversation led by representatives of the group.

Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are back with another installment of their Friday night film series! The Cured puts a twist on the ubiquitous zombie genre and tells the tale of a future Britain where a cure for the virus has been found, with former brain eaters returning to society alongside those they once terrorized. Ellen Page stars in this thoughtful morsel of terror that plays ONE NIGHT ONLY - Friday, March 16 at 9:30

The Family Classics Picture Show continues its 4th year on Sunday, March 18th at 2pm with a screening of A Hard Day's Night.

To get families excited about the magic of the movies, each matinee features an introduction by actor, magician, and movie buff David Moreland and includes custom enrichment guides to help continue the conversation after the credits roll.

Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family. The Family Classics Picture Show at Cinemapolis is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.

Additional special events in the coming days include the CU Law School's screening of Home Truth, the OADI presentation of Dark Girls, the return of the Ithaca Shakespeare Company film series, and the 5th Annual Streets Alive Film Festival.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, you should also get in soon to catch Before We Vanish, Lady Bird, and Submission. They all have their last screenings on THIS Thursday, March 15th!
 See you at the movies!
