OOPS! Our initial newsletter had the correct day, but incorrect DATE for the Crossword Competition Kick-off event.
It's on Sunday, March 11, and now reads correctly below.

Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
Thanks to everyone who made our annual awards night party a smash! A record turn-out of movie lovers cheered on all the winners, including many that remain on our screens for another week! Joining the slate of Oscar movies, we have THREE new openers coming on Friday:
  • Thoroughbreds is the feature debut from writer/director Cory Finley. This pitch-black comedy featuring Olivia Cooke (Me, Earl, & The Dying Girl), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) and Anton Yelchin (Green Room) was hit at the Sundance Film Festival. Brian Tallerico of RogertEbert.com calls it "a razor-sharp horror/satire that plays like an update of Heavenly Creatures for the era of the Kardashians."

  • Stanley Tucci stars in Submission, a timely tale of on-campus sexual politics. Tucci plays Ted Swenson, a moderately successful novelist and professor who get entangled personally and professionally with a student. Ella Taylor of NPR calls it "an age-old fable about the point where desire meets device, and invariably loses."

  • Finally, Before We Vanish hits our screens for a special limited engagement. Japanese horror master Kiyoshi Kurosawa turns to sci-fi in this thrilling and wacky take on the body-snatching aliens trope. It tracks three otherworldly characters as they possess earthlings to prepare Earth for a full-scale invasion. Justin Chang of the LA Times says, "Beneath its cheeky, scattershot surface is a surprisingly earnest core, as well as a sincere inquiry into what exactly humanity stands to lose in the face of its looming extinction." The opening night screening is a FANTASTIK FRIDAY event, hosted by our friends at Ithaca Fantastik
And before we get to the weekend, be sure to get to the theater for the triumphant encore presentation of one of Ithaca's favorites:

Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Now seen by over 750,000 people worldwide, the original 2015 NT Live broadcast of Hamlet returns to cinemas. As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state. Directed by Lyndsey Turner (Posh, Chimerica) and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.

Hamlet screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, March 10 at 1:30 pm.

Prepare for a puzzling afternoon with this interactive introduction to the Sixth Annual Finger Lakes Crossword Competition! In addition to a screening of the hit documentary Wordplay, there will be introductory remarks from NY Times crossword editor, Will Shortz, a live Q&A with two of Will’s assistants, along with a flash crossword game and drawings for “Wordplay” DVDs and Merl Reagle crossword books.
Hold on to your ticket stubs! They’re good for $3 off on “Crossword Swag” at the FLCC!
The screening is made possible with sponsorship support from Deeply Devoted Massage.

Plus MORE special events next week, including the continuation of our Press Play Series with the Kitchen Theatre and the return of the Olive Branch Film Series.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, you should also get in soon to catch The Insult, I, Tonya, and Nostalgia. They all have their last screenings on THIS Thursday, March 8th!
 See you at the movies!
