Greetings, Cinemapolitans!

Yet another Oscar nominee arrives on our screens this weekend:
  • Marion Cotillard scored a second Oscar nomination for her heartfelt performance as a young mother in Two Days, One Night, the latest from Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (The Kid with a Bike, L'Enfant). Inspired by an actual event, the Darndennes employ their trademark working class realism to craft the tale of Sandra, a factory worker in danger of losing her job because her co-workers voted to downsize rather than lost their own bonuses. Given only a weekend to convince them otherwise, her plight takes on what Scott Foundas of Variety calls "the suspense of a ticking-clock thriller," but with “ a richness of human experience that dwarfs most movies made on an epic canvas."

Also this weekend, we welcome our friends at the Museum of the Earth for this year's Darwin Days Celebration.  The theme for 2015 is "Evolution in Your Backyard," so it's only fitting that on Sunday at 3pm, we'll host a special screening of Microcosmos,  Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou’s groundbreaking view into the insect life in meadows and ponds. The film uses close-ups, slow motion, and time-lapse photography to explore the lives of bees, ladybugs, snails, spiders, beetles, and more. Tickets for this special event are just $5!

With more new Oscar movies on the way, it's time to bid adieu to couple of our current slate, both The Theory of Everything and Inherent Vice leave on Thursday!

See you at the movies!
