Greetings Cinemapolitans!

You've got a bunch of great excuses to take Dad to the movies this weekend, including TWO new films opening on Friday:
  • Tracking the doomed NYC mayoral campaign of a scandal weary former U.S. Congressman, Weiner is the perfect documentary to take your mind off of this year's presidential politics. Directed by Elyse Steinberg and former Weiner staffer Josh Kriegman, the film gets full access to the campaign and the man and focuses on the determined, funny, and ultimately self-destructive character of the career politician whose proclivities eventually got the best of him. The Guardian calls it a "riveting excursion into fear and loathing on the campaign trail."

  • Also hitting our screens on Friday is Genius, a stirring drama about the complex friendship and transformative professional relationship between the world-renowned book editor Maxwell Perkins (who discovered F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway) and the larger-than-life literary giant Thomas Wolfe. Featuring star turns from Colin Firth, Jude Law and Nicole Kidman, the film digs into the nuts and bolts of creative genius, showcasing the usually invisible relationship between author and editor. As Nicholas Barber of the BBC puts it, "Admittedly, there may not be much competition, but Genius...is sure to stand as cinema’s definitive statement on the subject of editing novels."
For a pre-weekend treat, don't miss the first of two special CONCERT ON SCREEN presentations.  Iggy Pop Live in Basel 2015 is an unforgettable performance from one of punk rock's enduring forces. Captured LIVE in October 2015, this show features his outrageous and unpredictable stage antics, as he sings at the Baloise Session in Basel, Switzerland, where he was honored with a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Just TWO CHANCES to catch this special presentation - Thursday, June 16 at 8:30 pm and again on Saturday, June 18 at 8:30 pm

Tickets are $15 General Admission, $12 for Students, Seniors and Members.
Then on Friday, June 17th, our friends at Ithaca Fantastik return for another Fantastic Film Friday. Their last presentation before a summer break will be the classic samurai revenge tale, Lady Snowblood. About the film: A young woman (Meiko Kaji), trained from childhood as an assassin and hell-bent on revenge for the murders of her father and brother and the rape of her mother, hacks and slashes her way to gory satisfaction in turn-of-the-twentieth-century Japan. Rampant with inventive violence and spectacularly choreographed swordplay, Toshiya Fujita’s Lady Snowblood is a bloody, beautiful extravaganzas composed of one elegant widescreen composition after another.
One night only! Friday, June 17th at 9:30 pm!
And then on Sunday, June 19 at 2pm, our Family Classics Picture Show continues its second season with a perfect Father's Day treat: a screening of Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy.  As always, the special matinee features an introduction by actor, magician, and movie buff David Moreland and will include a custom enrichment guide to help continue the conversation after the credits roll. Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family. The Family Classics Picture Show at Cinemapolis is made possible by lead sponsor Wells Fargo Advisors, with additional support from Mama Goose.
While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to catch How to Let Go of the World... and The Man Who Knew Infinity soon. They all leave THIS Thursday, June 16th!

 See you at the movies!
