Greetings Cinemapolitans!

Start planning your weekend now, with TWO new movies and some filmmaker appearances coming our way:
  • Gasland director Josh Fox makes a triumphant return to our screens (and our theater!) with his latest, How To Let Go of the World: And Love All the Things Climate Can't Change. This time, Fox goes globe-trotting to meet up with environmentalists and activists in an attempt to discover how to press on in the face of mounting evidence that the battle over climate change may already be lost. The resulting trip is what Andrew O'Hehir of Salon.com calls "a fascinating, heartbreaking and ultimately inspiring ride."

Fox continues to trot the globe to promote the film, and he'll be making a stop at Cinemapolis for a special screening with LIVE Q & A on
Friday, June 10 at 7 pm! Get your tickets now for what's sure to be a sold-out show.

  • Also hitting our screens on Friday is the latest from writer/director Rebecca Miller (Ballad of Jack and Rose, Personal Velocity). In Maggie's Plan, Greta Gerwig stars with another absorbing performance as a young woman who wants to start a family, but winds up embroiled in a love triangle instead. A farcical romantic comedy mired in the world of NYC intellectuals, it's an hilariously smart and timely movie featuring knock-out performances from Julianne Moore, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Ethan Hawke. A.O. Scott of the NY Times gives it a Critic's Pick stamp of approval, praising Miller's ability to find "a tricky balance of farce, satire and emotional sincerity, a way of treating people as ridiculous without denying them empathy."
Don't forget that even BEFORE the weekend begins, we have a night with local filmmakers! Be sure to be here on Thursday, June 9 at 7 pm for a special Cinemapolis / History Center presentation—Projecting Place: The Role of Local History in Documentaries. Join us for an evening with local screenwriters and producers discussing how they utilized local history resources to create their non-fiction films. Featured filmmakers include Austin Bunn, Deborah Hoard, Sue Perlgut, and Gossa Tsegaye. Each presenter will show clips from selected films to illustrate how the information they gathered from local historical documents was used. Tickets now on sale!
Then, as next week finishes up, don't miss the first of two special CONCERT ON SCREEN presentations.  Iggy Pop Live in Basel 2015 is an unforgettable performance from one of punk rock's enduring forces. Captured LIVE in October 2015, this show features his outrageous and unpredictable stage antics, as he sings at the Baloise Session in Basel, Switzerland, where he was honored with a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Just TWO CHANCES to catch this special presentation - Thursday, June 16 at 8:30 pm and again on Saturday, June 18 at 8:30 pm

Tickets are $15 General Admission, $12 for Students, Seniors and Members.
While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to catch A Bigger Splash, Sing Street, and Viva soon. They all leave THIS Thursday, June 9th!

 See you at the movies!
