Greetings Cinemapolitans!

The Oscars are behind us, but there are still plenty of award winning movies playing on our screens. This weekend we add THREE more, with an unprecedented NINE films screening for the coming week. We've had to make adjustments to show times to squeeze them all in, so please read the schedule carefully.

Opening Friday:
  • Nominated for Best Animated Feature, The Red Turtle is a beautiful, dialogue-free fable from award winning Dutch director, Michael Dudok de Wit. Variety's Peter Debruge calls it "a fable so simple, so pure, it feels as if it has existed for hundreds of years, like a brilliant shard of sea glass rendered smooth and elegant through generations of retelling."

  • Pedro Almodóvar returns to our screens with Julieta, a Hitchcockian drama that follows a women seeking to unravel the mystery of her estrangement from her daughter. Godfrey Cheshire of RogerEbert.com says it's "a film of such quietly assured mastery that it reminds you American cinema today has virtually no one comparable to Almodóvar."

  • Finally, from Poland comes a limited engagement of the truly original The Lure - a horror-comedy-musical about man-eating mermaids and their nightclub act. Katie Rife of AV Club calls it "a genre-defying film that blends elements of musicals, horror, romance, and fantasy into a contemporary fairy tale that celebrates the animalistic, the feminine, and the intimate intersections between the two." Don't miss the chance to catch this one!
Also coming up in the next week, we're once again hosting the Ithaca Native Landscape Symposium, and throwing in a few special screenings, as well:
One Night Only -Wed, Mar 15 at 7 pm

Margy Kinmonth’s new film REVOLUTION – New Art For A New World is a bold and exciting feature documentary that encapsulates a momentous period in the history of Russia and the Russian Avant-Garde.
ONE NIGHT ONLY!

A Shaw classic! Gemma Arterton is Joan of Arc in Saint Joan, broadcast live from the Donmar Warehouse. Bernard Shaw’s classic play follows the life and trial of a young country girl who declares a bloody mission to drive the English from France. Saint Joan screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, March 16th at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, March 18th at 1:30 pm.
