Subject: 🎥 Remember a Night at The Movies? Please Contribute to the Cinemapolis Annual Fund 🎥

Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

I’m writing today with an update and a request for your support. For the first time since our founding in 1986, Cinemapolis has entered a prolonged hiatus. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we voluntarily closed the theater on Sunday, March 15. As our community continues to grapple with changes to daily life due to the global pandemic, I’m sure Cinemapolis will be facing many more challenges in the coming months. We’ll need financial contributions from movie-lovers like you to grapple with those changes and ensure our survival beyond the pandemic.

Cinemapolis values its role as one of Ithaca’s certified living wage employers. During this temporary closure, all Cinemapolis employees, including hourly staff whose schedules have been impacted, continue to receive full pay.

What HAS NOT changed is our mission: Encouraging central New York residents to explore the power of film to entertain, to educate, and to celebrate the human experience. To that end, we instituted new efforts like our outdoor screening series—Movies on the Backlot—and our Virtual Cinema program, offering new, first-run independent and international films for our patrons to view at home.

While the doors are closed, we’re making modifications to your member-supported non-profit art house cinema to make it as safe as possible for when folks can come back to the movies:

What's New at Cinemapolis

These changes amount to unexpected costs, so now, more than ever, your support is needed. Making a tax-deductible contribution will guarantee a future where we can continue to celebrate the art of film, to enrich people’s lives, to grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course, to entertain. We're $30,000 away from reaching our 2020 fund-raising goal. Please consider making a gift to the Cinemapolis Annual Fund today.

DONATE

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. I look forward to resuming business and welcoming all our Cinemapolitans back to the theater upon reopening!

Brett Bossard,
Executive Director

**New and renewed memberships will be effective for one year from the date the theater re-opens.**
