Subject: We were just shot at

Dear Friends,

This morning, our Palestinian and Israeli activists went to Beit Sahour, just east of Bethlehem, to stand alongside local residents. While they were there, heavily armed settlers fired shots in our direction.

Everyone is safe and making their way home now, but this was a terrifying experience for our nonviolent activists. Our Palestinian Co-Director, Rana, was among those there.

"This morning was scary. We arrived and divided into groups to clean the area and plant trees. Almost immediately, armed settlers arrived and began shooting in our direction and towards the house that we were there to protect.

The Israeli military quickly followed in a fleet of jeeps and surrounded us, leaving us unable to move away from the area where the settlers were shooting. We formed a circle and began moving slowly back towards our vehicles. The settlers took our posters and flags we had brought with us, and as we left the area, they placed a large Israeli flag on the house."

We went to Beit Sahour as an emergency response after Palestinian landowners asked for our help. Violent settlers from the nearby Yatziv outpost have been preventing them from accessing their land and placing Israeli symbols across their property. This morning, the landowners wanted to return to their land, so we went to stand with them, alongside members of the Beit Sahour municipality and Christian clergy.

From Qusra to Beit Sahour, armed settler terrorism is making daily life increasingly dangerous for Palestinian communities across the West Bank. Too often, that violence takes place with the protection or presence of the Israeli military, while Palestinians are left with nowhere to turn for protection.

We will not stand by and allow armed militias to determine whether Palestinians can remain on their own land. Support our Emergency Response today and stand with the Palestinian and Israeli activists putting themselves on the ground to confront settler violence through nonviolent action.
