This week in Israel we were reminded of the strength of the single nationalistic narrative which plays out from school days, and throughout life. Despite holding the Joint Memorial for nearly two decades, we were denied the right to advertise the Israeli-Palestinian memorial on billboards.
“This can cause me losses I can’t even contemplate,” says CTV’s CEO Eilon Rosman in conversation with the Combatants for Peace movement, which produces the joint annual ceremony.
In a society which openly sensors an alternative message and an event which promotes peace, we know we still have a long way to go to change our reality. Peace should not be controversial, and sharing experiences of grief and loss on both sides of our conflict should be welcomed. We don’t intend to let this go by unchallenged - we need to be louder than ever and unite to tell our politicians, citizens and apparently, our advertising standards board - that war is not an act of fate - there is another way!
Donate now so that we can send a clear message across Israel and the world that the most important advertisement is one for peace, not division. |
