Subject: Humanity Must Prevail – International Day of Peace

Dear Friends,

Today is the International Day of Peace. Yet peace could not feel further away. Violence, displacement, and oppression define daily life for millions of people in our region. A just peace remains distant – but we refuse to give up. Every day, Combatants for Peace works to defend those suffering most from this reality, and to protect those who continue to struggle nonviolently for a better future.

Last week, 60 Israeli and Palestinian activists gathered in Beit Jala, in Area C, for the largest joint meeting in 2025. Over two days, participants from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Nablus, and other communities came together to reimagine what a just future could look like - one grounded in human rights, equality, and dignity for all. Many of the Palestinian participants came from communities that have faced extreme violence over the past six months, yet they still chose to show up, to listen, and to offer solutions and a vision that goes beyond violence or acceptance of the status quo. Together, we shared strategies for nonviolent co-resistance, strengthened our collective vision, and committed to bringing more people into our movement for peace.

We know that human rights are the foundation of peace. There is no future without justice, and there is no justice without recognition of every person’s humanity. In these extreme times, it is humanity itself that must prevail.

This week marks the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. A time of renewal, reflection, and hope. But for our Israeli team members, there can be no celebration, no disconnect from reality. Not in the shadow of ongoing violence. Not in the face of genocide.

As we move through these high holidays, we invite everyone - whether you observe or not - to pause and reflect. Hold in your heart:

  • the people of Gaza living under relentless military bombardment

  • Palestinian families in the West Bank enduring daily settler violence, left unprotected

  • prisoners held in solitary confinement without charge or trial

  • and the hostages, abandoned by their own government and still tortured in captivity, their families living in anguish

Our reality is unfair, unjust, and deeply painful for all. But we also know this: change will come. If we keep believing in nonviolence, if we stand together in joint co-resistance, and if we remain steadfast in our vision of equality, justice, and peace, we will see a different future.

To be a part of this change today, we welcome you to join us as a Friend of Combatants for Peace. Stand with all Israelis and Palestinians working together to end the occupation, move beyond oppression and militarism, and build a just and peaceful future - for all.

Peace will only come when we insist on it together – thank you for being part of our movement

In peace & solidarity,
