Subject: Finding Hope Amidst the Despair

Dear Friends

Asked once "With everything that is happening in Israel, Palestine and the world today, how do you not fall into despair?" Sulaiman Khatib, our Palestinian Director at the time, said simply "We do not have the luxury of giving up hope."

We as Combatants for Peace believe that hope is a choice, taking responsibility is a necessity, and change truly is in our hands.

Combatants for Peace was founded by former fighters from both sides: Palestinian former prisoners and Israeli former combat soldiers. They made the life-changing decision to put down their weapons, and dedicate themselves to building a future based on the core values of dignity, respect, equality and peace.

The Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Ceremony last week is only the beginning. We are 200,000 people strong, but our work is cut out for us. Each one of us has a part to play. The Coronavirus has only exacerbated tensions: violence is on the rise, the Israeli government is threatening annexation, and human rights abuses are becoming ever more prevalent. The world is going through an incredibly difficult time right now, but we are all in this together.
