New Open Energy Efficiency Savings project

We kicked off our PowerShaper Flex service with an introductory webinar on 13th July exclusively for participants.

PowerShaper Flex is a pioneering project we’re running to create a green, flexible smart energy grid, where participants can enable more of their power to be supplied by renewables, automate their home energy usage and save money on their bills.

Carbon Co-op's Claire Knox explained why we need PowerShaper Flex and how it’s going to work, while PowerShaper Flex participant Ian Madley spoke about his experiences of the service.

Watch the session above and sign up for more updates on the pilot below.

Bluedot Festival

Between 22 - 24 July we were at Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank. Carbon Co-op and People Powered Retrofit shared a stall at the festival where Jonathan Atkinson also presented. It was great to meet many of you who came by to see us, and we were able to put forward our work with PowerShaper Flex to a broad audience of interested people.

Futurebuild Webinar: the hot topic - overheating

People Powered Retrofit's Sandy Rushton is joining an exciting panel for a Futurebuild Digital webinar on Thursday 4th August, at 12pm.

The unprecedented temperatures experienced in the UK are a clear reminder of significant changes underway in the global climate. They also exposed weaknesses in our urban environments and exacerbated existing issues with the overheating of existing buildings including millions of our homes. Turning to technology such as air conditioning is not a solution as it may apparently solve one problem but, of course, sets up another with even more carbon emissions and even greater increases in temperature. Our only option to mitigate overheating is to change what we have to make more habitable environments. Carefully considered retrofitting of existing dwellings will reduce energy use, improve ventilation, improve building fabric performance and consider orientation and improvements to shading.
