FACT’s Board of Trustees has expressed strong support for establishing a permanently staffed Children’s Cabinet to the incoming Spanberger Administration. Children and families interact with multiple systems across education, health, social services, and child welfare, yet those systems often operate in silos. This fragmentation can limit the effectiveness of public investments and make it more difficult for families to access coordinated supports.
A Children’s Cabinet would serve as a policy-coordinating body, bringing together agencies and Secretariats to align goals, streamline policies, and develop comprehensive strategies that address the full range of children’s developmental, educational, social, and emotional needs. States that have adopted this model have demonstrated the value of shared leadership, cross-agency accountability, and sustained coordination focused on children and families.
As a public-private partnership, FACT is uniquely positioned to support such an effort. FACT’s mission to holistically support families, coupled with its role in providing private funding, research, and coordination, closely aligns with the purpose and function of a Children’s Cabinet. |
