Happy Friday! I'm happy we've made it through the first (almost) full week of school successfully. With our nanny moving to France, Patrick working on-site again, and me driving kids to school every morning, it has been an adjustment to work through!
On top of that, we had a young girl from Ukraine stay with us for a week, while she found a student rental closer to the University. We plan to continue hosting newcomers as there is a big need.
Out of 514,000 applicants, 216,000 have been approved so far for the Canada-Ukraine 3-year Work Visa and may eventually come to Canada. Over 75,000 Ukrainians have already come to Canada this year, with about 4000 to Edmonton. About 200 - 300 new Ukrainians are arriving in Edmonton each week.
There is no initial housing support for those who had to flee the war, so volunteer hosts are filling the gap and providing accommodations for 2-4 weeks. Most speak some English and are well educated, so they are finding jobs and places to rent fairly quickly (in Edmonton).
If you can help host or provide rentals, please let me know.
