BREAKING: Bonin Re-Elected in CD11, Zimmer Faces Runoff

Mike Bonin, City District 11 councilmember since 2013, dominated the city election with 70 percent of the vote and easily avoided a potentially embarrassing runoff. Bonin defeated challengers Mark Ryavec and Robin Rudisill, who accused him of being too close to developers, to represent CD11, which stretches from Westchester to Pacific Palisades, for the next five-and-a-half years.
But with an early estimate of 47.5 percent of the vote in LA Unified School Board District 4, just under the 50-percent-plus threshold, incumbent Steve Zimmer seems destined to face challenger Nick Melvoin in a May runoff. Palisadian Allison Holdorff Polhill attracted a very respectable 14.5 percent share of the vote, reflecting growing interest in charter schools. But turnout appears to have been below 10 percent.
