BFFP US Gulf South Leaders Push Back Against Proposed Oil and Gas Leases

The Biden Administration recently announced three proposed sales for offshore oil and gas extraction in the Gulf of Mexico in 2025, 2027 and 2029. Much of these fossil fuels would be used to produce toxic petrochemicals and plastics impacting communities nearby.

BFFP member John Beard Jr., Founder and Executive Director of the Port Arthur Community Action Network reacted to the announcement: “We say enough is enough. We refuse to be sacrificed. We reject the five-year plan, and demand that President Biden treat us like living people, not pawns in a Petrochemical power-play for profits at the expense of our lives, health and futures.”

Hangzhou Goes All Out to Host Green Asian Games

Hangzhou Asian Games began with a grand opening on September 23rd.

In Feb 2023, Zhejiang launched the 'Zero Waste Asian Games' plan, emphasizing eco-friendliness. It mandates 70% recyclable materials in licensed products and venue decor, a 50% minimum recycling rate for event materials, and reduced use of disposables like cups and pens.

To promote sustainability, the Asian Games Village, housing 20,000 athletes and officials, introduced a 'low-carbon account.' Using Alibaba Cloud tech, residents earn points for eco-friendly actions like recycling and avoiding plastic bags. These points can be traded for eco-friendly Asian Games memorabilia.
