Environmental Justice Victory in California, U.S.

Thanks to the leadership of #breakfreefromplastic changemakers with The Society of Native Nations, Azul, and Surfrider as part of the Stop Poseidon coalition, the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to deny the construction permits for the Poseidon Desalination Project in Huntington Beach, California, U.S.

Andrea León-Grossmann, Director of Climate Action at Azul, says: “The proposed desal plant was fossil-fuel burning, obsolete technology, with a carbon footprint the size of 40,000 homes, that would have killed marine life year-round, costing taxpayers and ratepayers alike.” Stopping the Poseidon Desalination plant is a major environmental justice victory!
