For the fourth year in a row, #breakfreefromplastic changemakers like you have identified the world’s top plastic-polluting corporations. Thanks to 11,184 volunteers in 45 countries, 440 brand audits were conducted across six continents. In total, 330,493 pieces of plastic pollution were collected and analyzed in order to identify the companies polluting the most places with the most plastic waste.

The corporations behind the plastic pollution crisis are also contributing to the climate crisis. If we want to truly “turn off the tap” on plastic pollution, we must stop corporations from producing so much plastic in the first place, and keep fossil fuels in the ground. That’s why this year’s brand audit report focuses on holding corporations accountable for the plastic & climate crisis.

Young people, especially those in the Global South, have the most to lose from the world failing to tackle both the climate and plastic pollution crises, despite having done the least to cause them. 20% of this year’s brand audit events were youth-led. Special thank you to our BFFP Youth Ambassadors in Brazil, Tunisia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines for all their powerful work!

It is more important than ever that national governments hold corporations accountable for their pollution, as voluntary corporate commitments are failing to reduce pollution. The world cannot continue to rely on fossil fuels, including the significant portion of fossil fuels being turned into plastic.

Corporations need to REVEAL the full extent of their plastic footprint, REDUCE it significantly by setting and implementing ambitious targets, and REINVENT their packaging to be reusable and plastic-free.

Join us in raising our voices together to demand corporate accountability today!
