Subject: Back to the gym after Christmas

Lee Hayward's Total Fitness Bodybuilding Tips
Hey Friend,

It's your muscle building coach Lee Hayward here, and I hope you had a good Christmas holiday.

We had a good Christmas here at the Hayward house, but it was a little bit rough because my 3 year old son Harvey was sick over the holidays with a bad cough, snotty nose, throwing up, etc. But thankfully he's on the mend and feeling much better today.

Yesterday I had my first workout back to the gym after Christmas and it felt good to be back to my routine.

I have to admit that I wasn't perfect over the holidays. I skipped workouts, ate too much, enjoyed desserts, fatty foods, etc... And as a result, I put on a few unwanted pounds over the holidays :-(

Over the past couple months my bodyweight was in the low 190's, now after Christmas I'm in the high 190's, so I've gained about 5 pounds.

However, despite this minor set back - I'm still much leaner and further ahead than I was just a couple years ago when I let myself get fat and was tipping the scale at 220+ pounds with a 40+ inch waistline.

The selfie pic below was taken yesterday weighing 198 pounds.

While I'm not the biggest, leanest, or most genetically gifted guy at the gym. I'm still in better shape than the average over 40 man.

It feels pretty good to be able to take off your shirt - even after eating too much and skipping workouts for several days - and not feel embarrassed about trying to hide the gut.

The key message here is when it comes to long term fitness and living a lean healthy lifestyle - you don't have to be perfect to make progress and feel good about your body.

Forget the "All Or Nothing" mentality, as that will only set you up for failure and disappointment.

Focus on the big picture and making small steady progress over the long term, instead of stressing yourself out trying to be perfect with every minor detail.

In my case, I'm far from perfect... I frequently eat too much, eat too fast, and it's a constant battle for me to slow down and put the fork down before I'm stuffed.

That's one of the reasons why I always start my meals with lean protein and veggies - because then if I eat too fast or too much, at least I'm filling up on the good stuff and minimizing the damage done.

NOTE: I've never seen anyone yet who got fat because they ate too many veggies LOL

When it comes to my workouts, it's very basic stuff. In fact, I only go to the gym and lift weights 3 days per week. But outside the gym I make sure to do some form of exercise everyday, even if it's just getting outside to take my dog for a walk.

One of the biggest mistakes most guys make when trying to lose fat and get in shape, is they make the process of working out and eating right too big, too complicated, and too difficult in their mind.

The truth is it's actually a lot easier to get lean (and stay lean) than you may think. You don't have to workout for hours on end, you don't have to starve yourself with crazy low carb diets, or any of that non-sense... You just have to master a few key habits that I teach my personal coaching students in the Muscle After 40 Blueprint.

It doesn't matter if you're a seasoned lifter, washed-up athlete, or weight lifting virgin who's just getting started. The proven strategies that are covered in the Muscle After 40 Blueprint will help you take your gains to new heights regardless of age.
